ORTO Prawning Master Season 3

Prawn fishing in Singapore has come a long way. In the first season, the winner had only a paltry 34 prawns caught. Now, catching over 50 prawns is not uncommon at all! Do enjoy yourselves with these footages.

This is the preliminary where the top 4 from each group will advance themselves to the finals. There were 3 tie breakers which the last position was tied and a sudden death which means they tied the tie breakers. Some of the contestants came back for another round to qualify for the finals and if you follow, the winner was well rewarded for his persistency.

This is the finals and the top three had a very very close fight. Do consider joining the competition next year. The venue is ORTO.

Miri Luconia Offshore Fishing - September 29 to October 03 2016

Our itinerary for our Miri Luconia Offshore fishing goes like this.

1st day - Reach Miri in the afternoon, stay at hotel for the night
2nd day - Morning 7am go onboard to Starfish 3 and travel to the 1st spot
3rd day - 5th day - Fishing onboard until 5th day night
6th day - Reach land in the morning and travel home

Here are the 6 part series on the catch report!

Part 1 is all about Durian Fish! One of the tastiest fish you can find and it actually taste like crab! We really had a good harvest of these fish at Miri.

Part 2 is about Grouper. In this video, one of the anglers caught a 32kg grouper with an electric reel.
Part 3 is about Tuna and assorted food fish. I caught an oar fish and it was promptly returned back to the sea. I thought it was a edible belt fish initially
Part 4 is about Amberjack caught using a squid I caught. The squid were very difficult to caught and the first one I caught was immediately cut into baits!
Part 5 is about Amberjack caught using jigs. The difference is, the angler experience the hook up when the fish take the jig. It is a different experience from baiting. Usually we jig using light set up so the fight is intense and longer.
Part 6 is about Red Ruby. We caught a number of them and they are good eating fish!

Prawn Fishing (Prawning) Basics

I have managed to unearth some clips and prawn fishing tutorial I have done at Bishan Prawn Fishing Pond. Kinda missed the place because it was nearby and the place was rustic and homely. Well, a bit nostalgic when I type this because I have spent hours perfecting my prawn fishing skills there and I do have some favorite spots when I fished there. Never empty handed.

It was really a homely place where people young and old come to bond over prawn fishing and food.

Now, this is the prawn fishing tutorial I have managed to unearth. I was supposed to share this video earlier on but I have no idea where I left it. Well, it is better late than never. Here are the steps to follow when you first start prawn fishing.

The items you need are your 1) Fishing Pole, 2) Net, 3) Bait

Fishing Pole- When you first go to the establishment and pay up, you will need to choose your rod. Don't worry about the rod itself because the pole rod should be the same, but the accessories that comes with it may differ. The rod comes with the fishing line, float and hook. We will discuss this in detail in a while.

Fishing Line - Always check if there are any knots, or damage to the line. The last thing you want is the line to snap as you bring in the mother of all prawns. The nylon line maybe warped, so feel the line and accept it if it is nice and straight.

Float or Indicator - Floats comes with various shape and sizes, they should be all the same, but I tend to choose the smallest one I can find if they offer it. A smaller float offers last resistance to the prawn when they pull the bait and thus will not spook the prawn. This translate to better sensitivity, too.

Hook - I tend to choose the biggest hook I can find because of the method I fishing. When you strike, the wider gap of the hook will provide less hindrance to the hook up. But if you are newbie and do not strike the prawn, choose the smallest hook you can find. I found that the prawns will ingest the hook if it is small and they will not be able to escape.

Bait - I use the house bait. If there are prawns and they are hungry, they will take anything. Just search for the sweet spot in the pond where they are gather.

Okay, that's it guys. I used a house rod, house bait in video and can hit 40+ prawns in  hours. Just find the right timing to go and happy hunting.

DAISO Jig Rock *New 2015 Model!*

DAISO JIG ROCK!

DAISO Japan has come up with a new jig model call the "Jig Rock". The jig rock with a fatter profile. Like its predecessor the Jig Bait, it comes with the following range of weight, 18g, 28g and 40g for various situation. I firmly believe that when the fish is in the mood to take jigs, anything shiny and reflective will attract their attention. Thus, you do not need to actually spend a lot of money for jigs. The most important thing is reaching the strike zone of the fish!
